My partner hasnt worked for 15 years because she has raised a family. She applied for a job and the woman she asked declined as she said it was against company protocol.

My partner doesnt know anybody else in a professional capacity to ask.

I work in recruitment and generally, if someone is unable to get an employment reference then 2 personal references is fine. These can come from someone who has known your partner for a good length of time. If your partner is rejected on the basis that they havent worked for 15 years and cant get a reference then this is discrimination and they cannot refuse on this basis

I have a similar problem - born in the uk and moved overseas when I was 8. Just returned at age 35 and obviously don't have any contactable references in the UK. The red tape here is unbelievable "terms and conditions apply" to everything. Makes one want to bulls...t with regards to the whole reference crappola.

Maybe your partner just needs to be her own boss and stay out of corporate america.
