Graduating with Latin IV *is* four years of one language.

Colleges like to see sustained study of a language. Your planned courses demonstrate exactly that.

If you are worrying that a summer course will look like only 3 years of Latin as opposed to 4, stop worrying. It'sstill equivalent to 4.

Actually I think it will make you look *better*. Colleges care what level you're at, not how many years of work you did. Taking the summer school class makes you look motivated and curious, and a lot of admissions officers at top schools have a soft spot for the classics.

I don't mean to contradict the earlier answerer, but *all* colleges I know of will accept Latin as a foreign language. I looked it up to be sure: Harvard does, University of Colorado does, Boston College does. . . that's a big range of schools.

Latin will also almost certainly give a big boost to your SAT Verbal score, which will help you get in to college.

I'd go with the 4 years with 1 language. If I were a college, cramming a language would look desperate, but it's up to you. I take Latin myself (cogito stultus sum) and it's harder than most people think. Well, the grammar is anyway. We can't all be sooper jeenyusis.

The only thing that they would look down on is if they do not accept Latin to satisfy their foreign language entrance requirement. Most schools will accept only those languages that are currently used in the world. Latin is mostly only used in medicine and religious uses. Check with the school you want to go to to see if they accept it.

I'm sure it won't make you look bad to take another Latin course. And besides, who CARES what the people at the colleges will think or prefer? It's your education, hun, do what suits YOU, not anybody else.

No, it will look good, because it shows you are genuinely interested in pursuing higher education.
