America has the artist that sell cd's and such in other countries all the time. Other countries idolize Madonna. I think the exception to the rule has been like Shakira who did not start off in the U.S. however until she came to the U.S. she was not as big.

Well the most obvious answer would be the US. But that would also depend heavily on your musical genre as well. For instance, you could probably name a dozen pop music stars without breaking a sweat but could you name who’s the world’s best or greatest current opera tenor or the best Irish folk group? Most of the best opera singers are generally found in Europe and as you might have guessed most of the best Irish folk singers aren’t likely to be found in the mean back streets of Detroit.

Another thing you might want to realize is that America isn’t the only place with a hypercharged media system. Pop stars in Japan and China enjoy stardom levels just as great as people like Brittany Spears or Madonna. This is because these two countries have population levels that are just as great (Japan) if not greater (China) than the US, so public appeal can be rather powerful out there as well. Stupid as it might sound, that one song from the Japanese group ‘the 5,6,7,8’s’ did win them worldwide notoriety, not only in the last fight seen in the movie Kill Bill but also in those telephone commercials.

Of course the real issue is that not every popular musician is going to actually win ‘worldwide fame’ or popularity. I’m currently living in Western Australia and many of the more popular music stars from the US don’t seem to do quite so well here. Although there are some that do seem to have an appeal, for instance I did see Pearl Jam about 2 months ago in Perth and it was a sold out show.

The United States, the exposure that one receives would have a far greater impact, the US has always been the measuring stick for attention and greatness, not necessarily talent but success

The short answer would be USA or UK. But it also depends on what kind of music. You want to sing country, really the US is your only choice. You want to do be more rock oriented, US or UK again, and in certain genres of Pop and Rock someone could be huge in Japan. If Dance or Trance, is their choice, try Europe particually Germany.

USA because the rest of the world feeds off of english programming like nothing else. But Canada too because Canadian stuff looks like American alot of times. Not england/austrailia as much because it seems like stuff comming from those places make up a good memory but die out too quick.

there is no one country that is more important as far as prestige goes. Being recognized in the Uk or the Us helps you establish recognitition.

However, as far as money goes, recognition in the us is important.

I like and listen to many artists who have never released albumsin the us and have never performed here. I'm unusual however, most americans are sheep and don't listen to anything that they didn't hear on the radio. We are a very insular country.

i would go to england or uk or london. Britain. most places in the uk love almost all pop music or new artists. They gobble up what you give them and love almost every style of music. if you make it there you have a 75% chance to make it when you come here to usa. Best of luck
