Will this negatively affect my chances of getting into a college such as Stanford or UC Berkeley?

Of course it will. I admire that you are thinking about this, and I don't want to discourage you, but if you keep getting B's you will have a tough time getting into Stanford.

You have to check on line at Stanford's website and see what the GPAs are for kids who got accepted. 3.5 is the lower end, and that's for kids who had some other great accomplishment to beef up their resumes.

You are going to be taking some tough courses in Soph and JR year. Chemistry, Physics, calculus.... those courses are tough to get As in. So you need to beef up your GPA right now in order to have a little slack.

You want to do well - ok, go for it! Try really hard to get a straight A average in the spring term. If you are really good enough to be a Stanford student then you can do it. It will take hard work and persistence. Good luck.

You're thinking rather far ahead, good for you!

That is a high B average--you have plenty of time to work up your grades if you're willing to put in the effort. Schools only recieve your final averaged grade for the year anyway. And with only one semester under your belt you can more than turn that around.

GPA is important when getting into schools when you apply because it shows the culmination of your effort during high school, but it can be offset by really good SATs or a well-written essay.

Good luck :)

It's just 9th grade, don't get stressed over your GPA. You don't even need to be thinking about colleges and stuff until your junior and senior years, I think they focus on those more.

colleges don't look at your 9th grade year. 10th and 11th are what count.
