Well kids may think it's cool...but wait until they start working. How are you going to fill out a time card for example? Having basic spelling, reading and writing skills are very important if you want a good job and money later on in life.

I have to agree with you. The level of grammar and spelling skills on this site is atrocious. I don't even bother responding to questions that make no sense. (How could you -- they make no sense!) : )

If nothing else, this site should be good "practice" for writing skills for these people, because the level of grammar I'm seeing would not get them in the front door for an interview in most places of employment. "Ur" for you're; "u" for you; "b4" for before. It's appalling, and more than a little embarrassing. I feel bad for these kids. It's going to come back and haunt them in their professional lives.

don't be silly, of course they are taught spelling and numbers and many young people are very good at it, but there are still some people who do not succeed, this has always been the case but in the past the unsuccessful ones dug holes in the road or washed things etc and so the general population were never exposed to their ignorance

Well, I taught my son to read & spell correctly, & both of us have high IQs, so...we even know how to use spell check!
But, since people don't read much anymore because of TV, I am not surprised. Then, there are all the people on here who English is not their first language...or is that just how it seems!

No, they don't. With the invention of the Spell-Check (which so many seem to see as infallible, when it is not), many schools see spelling as a pointless venture. It is not. When you spell something incorrectly, it is a butchering of the English language (but nowhere near as bad as when you make a grammatical error).

Actually, I think most of these brats know how to spell, but are too lazy to type out whole words and instead rely on immature shorthand. Adding an extra 'yo' to the 'u' or 'ur' isn't quite as complex as rocket science, but some see it that way.

To be honest with the "No child left behind program" a vast number of children are not learning spelling and as teachers we have to pass them on to the next grade with minimum proficiency. Thank congress.

Hey yo, most of us aren't kids we're either teens, young adults, or adults. Spelling was taught in K-3rd grade. We don't care about our spelling at the moment we just want our questions answered. We also don't care for you putting us down for our spelling. We don't need any correction on the I-net so don't give it to us either.

Joke. ;)

I know, I know, but the internet's not a perfect place. You just have to put up with it I guess. There are going to be people who like to embrace good spelling and grammar, so don't think that we're going to be submerged in supposed-English questions.
