1. You would have more time to spend on any number of activities: family time, after school activities, sports, helping others, chores, etc.
2.There would be less stress on busy family members who help you with homework.
3.You would save money on purchasing materials for projects.
4.Teachers would have less student work to evaluate and organize and more time for other activities.
5You would be more honest when you didn't have to think up excuses for why you didn't turn it in on time.

Oh, I've never been good at persuasive essay type things. I'll try.
1) Kids are only kids once. They need to be kids, not work all the time.
2) Kids try to rush through it to get out of the way- thus resulting in sloppy, unfinished, mostly incorrect work. Less homework means more effort.
3) Too much stress can push anyone over the edge... even if it's "just" homework.
4) Kids have to make up excuses to stay out of trouble if they can't finish their homework. What does that teach them?
5) Kids who spend all their time on homework and academic things can't learn to work with the arts or athletics.
That's all I can think of, I'm sorry. If it's for an essay or a letter, I hope you can find some ideas of mine you like and put them with a couple earlier answerers and it'll be great.

I got a different take on this question. While some things need to be learned by rote memorization, such as times tables, other things can be learned simply by attending class, if the teacher is good at making concepts easy for the students to understand.
I never did homework in high school, but because I attended class, and paid attention during class, I passed every test that the teachers gave us. I didn't graduate as high in my class as I could have, but I did learn everything the curriculum said that I should. Personally, I think that there is way to much emphasis on homework.
One other point, most jobs in the real world don't require you to do extra work at home. I don't get paid for working at home during my off time. I get paid when I am at work. Perhaps schools should take the same mentality.
As I said before, some lessons in school require rote memorization, those type of lessons should have homework associated with them. The rest of the lessons should be taught (and learned) in school.

I teach first grade, and even though the kids are young, their brains need a break. They need to have fun for a while so they are ready to come to school the next day and learn. If we just study study study then our brains don't get the rest they need.
