I've just read Charlotte Sometimes by Penelope Farmer basically becasue of the song by The Cure. I read the book was edited, including changing the ending for a reprint in the late 80's or early 90's.

Does anyone know what these changes were and why they were made?

My apologies as well... I have to chime in because I, too, love The Cure! I didn't know that there was a book: Charlotte Sometimes. How about if you look for early editions of the book -- either via Amazon, or used books collections? Perhaps even look up the editor and contact them for an early edition? Good luck!

Oh! That's interesting. I read it and loved it as a child in the 80s, and I recently bought it again, and loved it again. I wasn't aware of any changes since I'd read it before, but I could have missed them. Or if it was changed in the late 80s, maybe I read the edited version first.

I have to go and investigate now. If I find anything, I'll let you know.

Don't believe a word of it! Charlotte was ALWAYS, and no mistake!
The only cure for an edited book is to download Status Quo to your Ipod and bliss out. The changes were probably that she killed him in the end because of his drinking and womanising, but this was too much for the sensitivities of modern readers who were expecting decapitations and serial killings and not just a single blow with his samurai katana. But ----- the sequel has some surprises!
