On a quick look up...I found this neat site.... you can tailor it to your needs....I feel sure if you are respectful you will not offend anyone, You might even contact the leader and explain it's a project and would they mind. Update us, sounds cool.

CULTURE: the set of shared attitudes, values, goals, and practices that characterizes an institution or organization. Why don't you try AA (alcoholics anonymous). They are definitely a cultural group that has many meetings, plus it would give you an opportunity to share about an increasing problem in today's world. You can get meeting info. by looking up AA in the telephone book and calling the number..... make sure its an "open" meeting where ALL (including non-alcoholics) are invited.

I'm not from the area, but most places that have LBGT groups (which I only specify because of the section you're posting in) are generally designated as "Gay straight alliances". It would be good to contact the group beforehand and let them know what's up so that 1) YOu know you'll be welcome. You usually will, but some groups are more for queer-only space.
2) They'll know you're coming, and they'll know what they have planned and what they might deliberately plan for someone who's new to the group. We had people come to our college's group on like...just a social game night, and it didn't really make that much sense for them to be there that night, y'know?
I would probably go the honesty route; most people will probably be happy to welcome you to meetings, even beyond the required 4.

Well... you asked in a GBLT channel, so I'm sure you already know what you'd like to be exposed to ;) Go to a Gay-Straight alliance meeting at school or something. You could always go hang out with some drag queens. Now THAT is a different culture :D Fake boobies, fake eyelashes, and all.

It depends what you consider another culture but I know there are several midnight showings of the Rocky Horror Picture Show, and a lot of people consider to be it's own cult culture.

You could always go to a different church. There are tons of different cultures in new Jersey. There are for instance, indian and arabic christians. They are different but also very accepting.

You could just go to a GLBT meeting and take notes. You can either come right out and tell the group leader that you are straight you've just come here to take notes, or you can just walk in and be yourself and no one may know you are straight and you can just keep it to yourself and just show up for the one meeting.

Try going to a synagogue if you are christian or go to a church if you are Jewish. Or go to a gay club.
