Where did the name grasslands originate?

I need good answers, I have a project on biomes and I have grasslands. This is 50% of my grade, and I would like to keep my A!!! :)

Grasslands aquired their name as best as I know, to the fact that they are large open expanses of land with large amounts and varities of grasses.
