What's with you, Kath, and all the random (but totally awesome) questions?
They put that setting on so babies can still tamper with adult machines.... and so you can feed the burned bread to the birds....

My mother was a heavy smoker had migraines and was a bit neurotic for many years, I would wake up in the middle of the night and could smell burnt toast, I thought for many years I was epileptic, she used to read until 2-3 am, smoke and eat burnt toast slathered in butter and corn syrup, she now has COPD, is a type 2 diabetic, 84 and in a nursing home, but that is not the point, toasters work many ways as said, I like burnt toast to, generally the crusts, just get rid of them.

I ask myself that same question every time I make toast. I always for get to change the setting! Burnt toast is one of those smells that does not leave the kitchen for days.

Some people like burned toast, I had a friend that always burned her toast, because that's the way she liked it. Go figure.

Im sure that the person who made the thing thought it was funny to have since while you were not looking somehow it mysterisly got turned all the way up and burned it. Yeah someone thought it was funny. just like the person who invented the metal slide on a hot summer day, ??? DUH people!!!
