Realize that is no longer the 20th century and that helping kids with home work and keeping a clean house require 2 people?

If the wife's working, of course. If she's home all the time, she can do the housework.

Don't criticize or nag him for not doing it. Let him know how much you would appreciate his assistance and ask him politely and respectfully, and be willing to live with "NO" for an answer. On the homework, observe how his knowledge, experience, and expertise can benefit the children and will help them to admire and respect him, which in turn will make it easier for him to get them to obey when they are supposed to. On the housework, find a couple of things he is good at and/or likes to do (or at least the things he doesn't mind doing that much) and see if he could do those at least occasionally.

Gentle, respectful persuasion is what you are going for. Pray about your attitude every day, and his as well, but you have the most control over your own attitude.

By the way, one of the other answers suggested you "shut off" your husband until he does what you want. This is extremely manipulative, destructive to your marriage, and is condemned in scripture, making it overall a VERY BAD IDEA! Men do not respond well to ultimatums, it only raises the stakes by challenging their pride. If a wife "shut off" her husband until he did X and such, it is unlikely to get done, and neither would anything else until he was "shut back on". It is a serious evil act for either of you to withhold intimacy from the other. For better or worse, you became one flesh, and each of you has a claim on the body of the other.

I'm generally happy to help my wife when she is polite, respectful & grateful for my assistance. When she nags, carps, or criticizes, I'm less than enthusiastic. Tell your husband how much you appreciate his thoughtfulness and assistance every time he helps, and you probably will find that he helps more. He doesn't need a medal every time he washes a dish, but he does need to feel like you are happy he did it.

You let the house get real dirty and then get his *** up out the chair and tell him to get to cleaning. Or he will be living outside with the dogs he belongs with.
