I was smoking cigarettes but had not really considered myself addicted.
One day I thought about how I did not really like the taste , so I was going to quit after I finished the carton I had. Then, it dawned on me that IF I would smoke even though I didn't like the taste, I must be addicted.
At this point I got pretty angry that some inanimate thing could control me.'
I took all the cigarettes and tore them apart and stomped them into the ground. I was cussing at the cigarettes saying " F**** you, F*** you" , until I was tired.
I never smoked again after that day.

Yes, my addiction was my ex-boyfriend and his ugly ways (cheating, lying etc). I overcame my addiction by physically separating from him. After repeatedly telling him that it was over (it was all a big joke to him), I actually moved to a different neighborhood and cut off all contact. It was hard at first, but I never looked back. It has been over 10 years now and I still have no "cravings".

Smoked for 20 years, then quit cold turkey when my 3 year old neice started to imitate me with candy cigarettes. Had cravings for about 2 years, but was able to get by anyway (gummi bears helped A LOT!!).
Now, if I could only figure out how to stop ANSWERING QUESTIONS all day!!

I quit using tobacco. I pretty much went cold turkey...my husband also helped me quit. It really helped that I got pregnant because then I just naturally didn't crave tobacco. I'm not saying it was easy because whenever I'm around people who use it I crave it and every so often I have dreams about it. But It has been 3 years now since I quit.

No...I have an addiction to cigarettes. I have tried many times to give it up but, to no avail.
I think once a person get's it in their minds to give up something they are addicted to, they will succeed. Hence my problem with giving up ciggies....my mind just isn't in the right place for it to happen.
