They are both very good products. McAfee I had for awhile and it was very good, easy to use and uses low system resources. Norton, which I use now is VERY good, its self-intelligent, updating and scanning on its own, real-time protection and now comes with Antispyware and Antiphishing. But you should only purchase Norton 2007 only if you have a powerful PC, because I recently installed Norton Internet Security 2007 (NIS2007), The program is VERY powerful but uses a lot of CPU on startup (only on startup) so slows it down just at the beginning. NIS2007 is only for Windows XP Home/Pro/Media Center/Black Editions, and Vista Editions with 300 MHz processor, 256 RAM and upto 100-200 MB Hard Drive. McAfee's new Internet Security I am pretty sure works 98 SE and up with minimal hardware.

Tried McAfee once (because it was cheaper than Norton). Well, that was money wasted. My work computer has Norton and seems really good. I downloaded some free stuff for my home computer. I think it is CA, its pretty good but the updates take a while.
I also had Zonealarm on another computer, this was pretty good once set up - it wasn't anti-virus, more a user friendly firewall. It was free (you can pay to upgrade and I think they do an anti virus if you do), but for what I needed the free bit was great.

No disrespect to McAfee, but my vote would have to go for Norton. I've used it since Peter Norton owned the company and nowadays, with "always on" broadband, it runs, updates and scans all on its own.
