This may get technical.

Try reinstalling the software that came with the

computer.

If this a dell computer with windows XP then give this a

try.

First find the the disc, that said:

(For Reinstalling Dell Inpiron System Software)

Insert it into the the disc drive. wait a few seconds for it to show up on

the screen or click on The Start Menu , then click on My Computer and

then click on the disc drives icon. Then wait for just a few seconds.

Then read the text above the next button. Click the next, it will

show you what types of drivers you have on your computer. Do you see

the check marks?

These are the drivers that are installed on your computer.

To see if your Audio Driver is here.

Look to see if it is the same system model.

Run the mouse over them,

text bubbles will popup on the screen.

look at it if it matches. Then if it does, click it. The disc drive will speed up.

It will tell you info on it.

(The Audio Driver)

Then click: "Click to extract the files".

Then the disc drive will speed up.

Next it will tell you where would like to put the file.

Just leave it as it is,

as it's default place to put it.

If you have a differnet letter drive, then make it that drive.

Click the Ok button.

There is more to the story.

If the computer found some of the audo files just say "Yes To All"

The installation wizard will take you throw step by step.

I hope this info helpped out.

Thank You, for listening

It seems that your sound card (hardware) has been disconnected from the systems board. Check to see if it is stillconencted, then if the conenction is still intact and you are seeing grey where the buttons should be bold, then the sound hardware may have beencorrupt, you may need a replacement,,that is if windows stilldoesnt recognize it after you might have made sure it is securely attached to the systmes board..

have you tried to re-start your PC?
Maybe It's the solution. Sometimes some things disappear and you don't know how, but they come back when you give them a second chance.
How in the world have you un-installed the volume control "accidentally"?
