Am I a kleptomaniac just because I steal for fun?

Question

I can't get enough of it- my favorite is to steal the toilet paper holders out of restrooms. You know the spring loaded rods? I probably have about 700 or so. They have so many uses! (stir coffee; veggie peeler; kill ants, foot massager) I once stole an old lady's eyeglasses while she was at a water fountain. I think i really should channel my energy in other ways like stamps, boiling water, entering poetry contests, smelling dumpsters ect... Have you ever stole a small childs diaper bag- now thats good stuff!!! Am i just metally challenged or does everybody think like me? My uncle told me once that a stolen prize isn't worth a slug penny, could he be right? HELP!!!!

I wished so much all the stuff you say is true. That would make you supremely adorable. However, it doesn't sound real. Stir coffee with toilet paper holders? Gross. If it is true, you are a klepto if you can't stop doing it even if it bad for you. Then my advice would be, indeed, to turn into other activities, like boiling water. With the power of your mind.

You're not a Klepto unless you don't relize what your doing you just steal out of habit, like you can't help yourself.I don't think you're mentally challenged i think you're just REALLY bored. You should get a hobbie. you probably should give the lady her glasses back and things in a diaper bag are fun like baby food!

I think you are a brat that needs to find a life. The things you think are funny stealing arent. Anyone could steal stuff out of a bathroom. Taking some childs diaper bag is even more pathetic. I dont think you are a klepto I think you just think you are so awesome for stealing these things and that why you keep doing it.

Yeah, looks like you are. I've a close friend who is a recently reformed Klepto. He would take all kinds of things and over half his wardrobe is from the "Five finger discount." He took very expensive things and was never caught. He told me he did it because he could. I think it was because it helped to stroke his ego and gave him power and control that he could never have before. He was actually proud of his ability but after many years realized that he was no longer in control of his "ability" and that it was controling him. Now he takes pride in the fact that he is strong enough to stop. Nobody told him...not his loved ones...not fear...not the law....he just stopped. Good luck.

I think this is a problem you need to get help for. How would you like it if I stole your toilet paper holders? That is how the people feel that you steal from. If you can not afford it you do not need it. Your uncle is VERY right! Good Luck Klep (my nickname for you)

Klepto's,they steal because it's a high,an adrenaline rush,something that they are getting away with,real ones start with something small ,and then it escalates into a really big problem.

If you want to quit ,you're going to have to admit you have a problem to a family member,and ask for help,and give everything back that you have stolen,well.at least things that aren't edible that you may have eaten. & Then comes the therapy,it's the only way to go cold turkey,as with an addiction.
