I traveled for one week in the Czech Republic on a bicycle. I had no problems what-so-ever. It's as good as traveling in any other western European country. Prague is a world class city. Affordable, historical and full of great culture. I had no negative feedback by being American.
If you venture outside of Prague, it will be harder to find people who speak English. German is generally the second language spoken. There are also many young people from Russia who have come to the country, as it is very prosperous. It on it's way to be a first world country. Go and enjoy!!

The tourist would have a wonderful time most likely. The Czech Republic isn't a third world country or something like that! It's right next to other nice countries like Germany, Poland, and Austria which most Americans find very enjoyable. It's not so different in the Czech Republic!

I don't think it would be a bad idea. I've done some traveling in Moldova and Turkey. The most important thing is to do a lot of research about the country before making a decision--this will tell you customs and attitudes and safe places, and to not travel alone. One resource for you could be to check with an american embassy in Czech Republic. They can tell you all sorts of information regarding safety, etc...
If you are really worried about the american thing, I've heard of people telling locals that they were from Canada.--The most important thing with this, is to make sure you don't lie to anyone could find out the truth--that could be bad.

Anywhere you travel carries some degree of risk these days, even in America. But I would say that as long as you were sensible about it, you'd be OK. For example, one of the things we were told when in Europe was to blend in - so I would not were clothes with obvious references to the U.S., keep your passport in a safe place; things like that.

The Czech Republic is a really cool place to visit. Enjoy!

I don't think so. Columbia, Iraq, places like that would probably not be good ideas, but the Czech Republic afaik is okay.

Umm. They would have a great time! What are you worried about? It's beautiful, great architecture, history and classical music. Affordable compared to other parts of Europe and friendly because they don't get overwhelmed with tourists. Enjoy yourself!
