I agree with Stacy.. they're to help, but they can't give you just anything you need. You may have to buy what you need, and if that isn't possible, then maybe you should have thought about that before you got pregnant..

Good luck.

I am sorry you had a few rude responses. No one knows your situation. You have every right to get WIC and you also have every right to question what they provide for your child if it's not working for you.

From what I have read, most infant formulas are very similar. So the enfamil brand that matches with the similac brand you use should be very similar. I looked up this website that compares a few different formulas and the nutrition in them. You could probably do a better search for the type you use and the one WIC wants you to switch to, and see if there are any big differences. Take a look

I don't know why WIC won't let you use a doctor prescription though, it's never been a problem for me and my daughter is on Similac Alimentum.

Good luck!

Similac/Enfamil in and of itself is the same kind of formula, just different companies.

Different WIC agencies have different contracts with either Similac or Enfamil and you get either or.

I used to work for WIC and the office I worked for used Similac. Even if you brought in a prescription for Enfamil, we could not do anything about it.

I had a similiar problem. My daughter had to have similac alimentum because anything else would constipate her. (She went 5 weeks one time!) They told me "constipation" wasn't a medical conditions worthy of that formula. I had to have my doctor write another note about the seriousness of not having a BM for that long.
Anyway, Similac and Enfamil are very similar so their way of thinking is probably just that it's your preference which they don't care about.
I'm no doctor, but maybe you should try switching to enfamil soy or something until you rule out the problem.

they did that when my oldest was a baby, i simply bought a few cans of the similac on my own and slowly started mixing them until the all the baby was getting was enfamil. My doctor suggested that,a nd it worked fine, there was no problem with tummy upset.

If you have a doctors note they should be able to provide you with the formula but in some cases they cant. Ask for a list of what formulas they will provide checks for and talk to your doctor.

a doctors prescription isn't gonna do any good because formula is not a prescription medication...and wic works with different companies so whichever company your office contracts with is who's formula they use

Normally if you have a perscription from you doctor then they will do it. Your doctor should write it specifically for WIC. If you didnt get one ask your doc for one and try again. hope it works!

Well, they really can only do what they can do. You can try and get them to switch it to Soy with will help the stomach. Just remember, they're trying to help, but they can only give what they can. You may have to purchase what you need.

Sorry, but beggars can't be choosers. Unless your child was deadly allergic to the formula WIC is giving you, be quiet and take it. Otherwise, get a job and pay for it yourself. If you could not afford to feed your child, maybe you shouldn't have had unprotected sex.

I also have to add that getting WIC is NOT a right. IT'S WELFARE! Unless something happened to your job AFTER you got pregnant, then maybe ok. But if you couldn't afford a kid before you got pregnant, what makes you think that taxpayers want to pay for YOUR kid?
