Ryan Leaf definately beats out anyone. I would say that Tony Mandarich, Brian Bosworth, Akili Smith, and Lawrence Phillips follows right behind.

David Carr actually is not that bad of a QB. Actually did quite well this season with a very high completion percentage. Give credit to him with his crappy line. Not fun getting the record for sacks, try posting some number with that.

1. Ryan Leaf. People were actually debating if the Colts should take Leaf instead of Manning before the draft.
2. Courtney Brown. #1 pick, average career. Rated high because of his #1 pick contract.
3. Ki-Jana Carter. I know, I know, it was because of injury but still a bust.
4. Akili Smith. He never did ANYTHING in the NFL. TOTAL bust.
5. Steve Emtman. #1 in 1992 but totally bombed.
There's more but you asked for only five.

The Biggest NFL Busts ever:

1.QB Ryan Leaf: Folded under pressure.
2.RB Blair Thomas: Needed holes the size of the grand canyon.
3.TE Kyle Brady: Didn't live up to his expectations.
4.QB Ken O'Brien: Drafted with Marino, stats werent good enough.
5.QB Joey Harrington: Just a pure bust.

Leaf is probably tops in most people's heads because of all the money he got for all the nothing he did, even though he was the number 2 pick that year.

These guys all went first overall in the draft and did squat:

Tim Couch
Steve Emtman
Ki-Jana Carter

And here's two fairly recent No. 1 overall picks who likely will go down as busts: Courtney Brown and David Carr.

Leaf beats Couch and Akili because they were all supposed to be big QBs and they were no good. Carr and Courtney Brown are bad too.

manadarich actually had a pretty decent nfl career. after he left the packers he ended up in indy and played about 6 or more seasonss. he was not a pro bowl level talent but he started at guard. mandarich was such a hi profile draft pick but if SI had not made that infamous cover calling mandarich " the incredible Hulk" it made it almost impossible to live up to
