ELECTRONIC GAMES—A Summary of the Risks
Playing violent computer and video games may encourage aggressive behavior.
Electronic games can make you more than a spectator of violence; they are designed to make you feel like a participant.
For the impressionable, games may blur the distinction between reality and fantasy.
Like an addiction, game playing can lead to neglect of important obligations and relationships.
Games can consume time that children should spend on other important activities, such as studying, interacting with others, and playing creatively.
Prolonged staring at the screen can cause eyestrain.
Lack of exercise, a possible result of game playing, can lead to obesity.
Games can rob you of money and time.
violence games are showing kids how to kill and they also are practicing the killing and there love for others is cooling of a 12-year-old " cornered an unarmed opponet and held the gun to his head at point-blank range. 'You can't get away!' the boy said with a maniacal sneer, taunting the character on the screen. " You're mine! the boy pushed the button and shot the character in the face. Blood spattered the lab coat of the character as he whirled and fell. You're down!' the boy said laughing". that is showing us that they enjoy it and they can do it to some one not part of the game any more they can do it to a reall person

I think it depends on the person. Some people are mature enough to know that it's just a game and that it's not right to go out and do to other people what you see in video games.
Other people unfortunately are morons and can't distinguish between real life and video games. So for them it's bad..and bad for the rest of us I guess if they're playing the games.
Overall I think violence in games is fine as long as the person playing them is able to realize that it's just a game.

Depends how violent, I think. A certain level of violence is fine with me. But if the developers went out of their way to make the violence ultra-realistic or gory, and/or if the violence is of a particularly disturbing nature (like people being eaten alive slowly by zombies with no arms), then I would say it can be unhealthy. I like games that allow me to feel like I'm dealing damage on well-deserving foes. I don't like games that make me feel like a sick, psychotic bastard for doing it, and then slowly desensitize me so that I no longer feel like a sicko.

Violence is bad in general, but I don't think video games can turn a non violent person into one.

Video games are video games, and if you are mentally healthy you recognize them for what they are, entertainment and fantasy. And using childhood as an excuse is a cop out, because parents should be leading their children. As a child I was taught the difference between reality and fantasy, and it didn't hurt my imagination at all.
It's easy for people to say that they have been desensitized by television and video games, in the 80's they said it about rock music. As a society we tend to want to place the blame on others, personal responsibility has taken a backseat. It's easy to blame others for our shortcomings, parents find it easy to point a finger at the media, but in honesty it's an adult's or a parent's responsibility to educate and or protect their children.
In short, don't take away something that I, as an adult, enjoy doing because you want to childproof the world. Take responsibility for yourselves, or your own progeny, and quit making the media your scapegoat.

no effect except on game sales ( even the true idiots can tell the difference between video games and real life ) ( and if you give a 3 year old a toy car he will crash it - prior to any video game knowledge )
but there does seem to be a correlation between the era of movie hero's ( starting in the 70's ) being bad guys and crime - but nobody is unbiased enough to do a proper study !

I would say it is good but that is becase I like it ... other than that it is all personal oppinion....... it has little influence on people's behavior (personally)... and for proof of that you can look at the level of violence in the us and canada(same media... waaaay diferent ammounts of violence) people have villianized "Graphic Games" but they cant stop them
