Just remember that the most important thing is the fit, not the numbers. I measure as a 38A, even by multiple Victoria's Secret employees. However, I actually wear somewhere around a 36D.
For the band, you should not bulge out over and under the back strap, but you shouldn't have much wiggle room either. For the cups, you should fit into them snugly, no gaps or bunches. You also shouldn't be overflowing the cups, making yourself look like you have 4 boobs.

There are two ways of measuring the ribcage for your band size. One is under the breasts. Hold the tape snug, but not too tight. If it is an even number add 4", if it is an odd number add 5". Most stores add 5" automatically because they think every woman is shaped the same.

The second method is measuring above your breasts and under your armpits, this is taken slight snug, but not very tight. If it lands on an even number this is your band size. If it lands on an odd number round up to the nearest even number.

For your cup size, measure loosely around the fullest part, usually over the nipples, while wearing a bra that is not padded or push-up. Or you can do it without a bra, either by leaning over so all your breast tissue gets measure or stand up straight and take in a deep breath. If this number lands on a half inch, round up.

So let's say your band measurement, taken under the breasts measured 28...add 4". You are a 32 band size. And let's say over your breasts measured 35...you subtract the band measurement from the cup measurement which is 3 inches. 3 is a C cup so you are a 32C. If you measure 31-32" above your breasts, you are a 32.

1" = A
2" = B
3" = C
4" = D
5" = DD (E in some brands, especially overseas bras)
etc...

Going to a seamstress that specializes in bra sizing and making is your best option. Sales associates at any store only have a limited amount of training when it comes to fitting someone properly with a bra, so they are bound to give you the incorrect size...as mentioned above by the woman that got incorrectly measure by employess from VS.

this is the easiest way i promise...go to a place like JcPenny's or Victoria's Secrets have them measure you for a bra. That way they can fit you with a bra right then and there and they will help you find what fits you the best. this is what i do because i never could figure out my bra size either and they helped me figure out that i wasnt a 36 around more like a 34 and i wasnt a C cup i was a D. it made a big difference in the way my bra fit and everything. Hope this helps!

The best way to find you true bra size is to get a measuring tape and wrap it around your stomach ( under your breasts). The number you get plus the number of your cup size, is your bra size. If the bra is still a little snug, then increase the letter size.

The best way is to have a professional do it. You can usually find these "professionals" hanging out behind the local 7-11. They are easily spotted by the highly recogniazble raincoat tha is tied in place with a rope belt. Always ready to lend a hand..or two..they are your best source for quick and accurate boobie measurements!! Hoozaah!!

get one of those like yellow or white measuring tapes that you roll up in a little circle when you dont use it and take it around your chest....then multiply the size by 3 and check your old bra...if its like 30 or 40 then you would go to the next letter size up

It can be a bit tricky to do at home. I would recommend going to your local Victorias Secret or other lingerie store and asking them to measure you. It's typically not very expensive to do.
