I have an Medical Assistant Certification. I want to become a LPN. Can I just apply to take the exam or do I need additional schooling. I am certified in chicago il.

no.. U have to actually go thru the LPN program.. To my knowledge u cannot get out of any LPN classes thru testing.. U can with RN school..u can test out of what u know (some of them).. But no... you must attend the entire LPN program.. There are things nurses do and need to know that MA don't know..

You need to be a graduate of an accredited LPN or RN program in order to sit for the NCLEX Exams. You will need to go back to school and do some practical courses. You may, however, be able to take tests at a school and get credit for courses if you think you possess the skills they teach in those classes. Contact your local Community College Nursing Program and ask them about your options.

I do think you need to complete some schooling. I would check with the Illinois LPN Licensing Board.
