Benjamin Franklin.
Though he would probably be wise enough not to accept the position.

I wouldn't. No single person can run this nation, that would be a dictatorship. That's why the founding fathers created a system based on representational leadership, which included a system of checks and balances.
Its easy to be confused. Until the midterm elections of '06 we had what was essentially a monarchy. Republicans controlled every aspect of the government and were able to push through anything and everything they wanted without meaningful opposition. For example, the Patriot Act was passed right away without being fully examined.

Well, since I'm always for people who are not bitter and who have positive attitudes and are into fairness and are not violent minded nor are they milataristic in character or actions, and have outstanding character that has been proven in the actions they have taken, and they are visionaries of their time, I'd choose George McGovern over Nixon any day, Ralph Nadar over Clinton and George Bush Sr., Al Gore over GWB, Kucinich over any Republican or Democrat he will run against in 2008.

Vice President John McCain
If only Powell would run... =[
(I stuck with present figures because, while I respect him, Abe Lincoln would sh*t himself if he came to the future.)

probably thomas jefferson as president, because he actually knew what our nation was founded under and would not be doing the crap we see in our "leadership" these days.
for VP, ill have to go with FDR so we could fix some of our poverty and economic problems we have today.

U2 frontman Bono.
First of all, he's an honest to God Christian unlike our current Commander in Chief who feigned faith in order to win votes from the Conservative Right.
Secondly, he'd finally develop a foreign policy where we would actually start to help out the nations who are suffering from famine and disease and turn America into the world's healers, not the world's police force.
And finally, he'd make "Pride (In the Name of Love)" the new national anthem.
