These books are for American speakers who want to learn Arabic. This is why I think they will be very suitable for you. They teach you the "standard Arabic" or "Classic Arabic" - we call it " al fosha". And there is focus on the Egyptian dialect. There is no difference in writing between the two. The difference is in the way they are spoken.

Alif Baa :Introduction to Arabic letters and Sounds , by Kristen Brustad , Mahmoud Al-Batal , and Abbas Al-Tonsi

This book is for learning the alphabet .

The other one is :

For beginning and intermediate students , Al Kitaab Fii Ta'allum al- Arabiyya :A text book for beginning Arabic by Brustad ,Al-Batal, Al-Tonsi

This book is for the actual process of learning words and sentences .If you know the alphabet , you don't need to buy the first book and you can start with the second one.
Both books were made by "Egyptian" teachers who have been working in America for a long time. You can order them online.
Good Luck.

P.S : There are also D.V.Ds with the books. They are very useful.

Berlitz makes a CD that is called Arabic in 30 days. I used the spanish version of this CD and it worked REALLY well. Maybe it will work for you. The CD mostly helps you under stand the written aspect as well as the speach aspect of the language. But it doesn't go very in depth. Good luck!
