Yes, Click the file (ensure file extensions are shown)

EG. the file is called " myvideo.avi "

You rename it to " myvideo.txt "

When the user recieves it, they then rename it to " myvideo.avi ".

On almost all operating systems this will work, ensure "Hide extensions for known file types" is unticked, it's in Tools -> Options on Windows XP.

You need no programs!

Go into a blank folder or something .. go into the toolbars 'Tools' > 'Folder Options...' - click the 'View' tab up top and UNcheck the option for "Hide extensions for known file types" ..

Now you can rename the AVI file to whatever extensions you like (in this case .. rename it to 'movie.txt').
All done!

Edit: I see 'Danltn' posted this method before me :(
Another way to view the binary would be to right-click the file and select "Open With..." and choose Notepad or something.

Just be sure NOT to edit and Save the file (in Notepad..) because Notepad will save it as ANSI which corrupts the file.

Flux.

avi IS a binary file. Converting a binary file into an ASCII file preserving its contents is not possible.
