Has anyone really stopped and thought about it? Here in Florida it seems the same panhandlers work the same corner everyday. I mean do they sell Franchises for this because I know if you have a really good corner you can pull in $200 a day. The cynical side of me belives these guys leave their gated communities in their BMW's park behind Walgreens or whatever, roll around in the dirt for a while and then work their corner collecting tax free cash all day. I am not nocking these guys and in fact give them cash fairly regularly, but is it just me being cynical or does anyone else think these guys are a hell of a lot smarter than us? No paperwork, No boss, NO BS at the office, gettting a nice tan, meet interesting people and a nice haul of cash at the end of the day

I think you answered yourself with "cynical." I'm not bashing you for that! There's more than one side to this. It would be illogical to NOT consider those who "use" their "corners." There are also those who truly need help. I once gave $10.00 to a woman begging to buy a chicken for her children! Then I saw her get into a Mercedes with the driver decked out in VERY expensive jewelry. I suppose one needs to follow their heart; & there ARE ways to perceive who is for real & who isn't. I don't believe there's anything that isn't "abused" in some way. It's up to us to make the best choices.

Some of them are definitely scamming, and some have obviously been crushed by the world. I live in New York, and I'm always surprised when I give someone money. Sometimes my heart breaks for them, and other times I get angry at them. I guess all you can do is listen to your conscience, and give to charity.

I agree with you about these people having BMW's and rolling around in the dirty everyday. When my mom and I go to my grandparents house in Florida, everytime we get off the interstate, there is the same guy that is always there wearing designer clothes with his cardboard sign. It sorta pisses me off that some people can get away with doing that as a job.

I think you're probably right on this. Maybe instead of handing out cash, you can hand them the tel. # and the address of the nearest Dept. of Human Services. If they truly need the help, they will reach for it.
