Most likely, but everyone handles things differently. I dated my best guy friend a really long time ago, and last year, he asked me out. Again this year, he asked me out. I said no both times, because I wasn't interested in him that way. As time goes on, I STILL see him as a friend and ONLY as a friend. I clearly stated to him before that I want to be nothing more. It does make the friendship awkward, seeing as I know he has more than friendly feelings for me. However, I only see him as a friend, and that's all he'll ever be.
I'm guessing that your reason for asking this is because you like one of your friends that is a girl. She has most likely told you that you are her good friend, but she hasn't acted like she's wanted to be anything more. Only time will tell how she feels about you later on. My friend was friends with this one guy, and she always told me that no matter how much he liked her, she would only be his friend. They've been dating a year now. I think it really does just depend on how things go in the future.

Not necessarily. Some of my best relationships were with guys who started out as my friend. When you are friends first, you know that person and you trust that person and it makes it much easier to simply fall into something more. You don't have to worry that they are going to become a different person, as you might if you just start dating someone outright.

She may like you and just not be sure if you like her as more than a friend! You could try to flirt and see if she's receptive...
