After 3 kids, I am done. So I think I should get a vasectomy from Kaiser Permanente. If you got it done, can you describe how the procedure was and recovery?

It's an office procedure done under local anesthetic. It painless until recovery. The amount of pain and recovery time varies from person to person. Mine took about 3 days with an ice bag in the groin. Some people feel better much sooner. Resting and pain control are the only recovery issues. There are no changes to sexual performance after the procedure. Some studies suggest an increase in the risk of prostate cancer after vasectomy.

dustoff had the correct answer.
I had one about 7 years ago and the pain was minimal for me. I kept an icebag on my groin for about 2 days and then I was fine.
I didn't need anything more than Tylenol for the pain.
The office procedure was a little scary because you are awake during the surgery, but if the local anestetic is done properly you shouldn't feel a thing.

I've had no decrease in my sexual behavior since then which means there have been no side effects.

I did not have my vasectomy at Kaiser, so I can't say if Kaiser is the best or worst for this procedure.
I have had both good and bad experiances at Kaiser over the years.

I got mine 20 years ago. My experience was pretty good, so yours should be even better. Technology has come a long way in 20 years.

I had to shave my genital area. The nurse touched up my work on the day of the surgery. It took about 10 min. I didn’t feel any pain except for the stick in the arm (blood sample), and the two local pain killer shots the gave me (just above my sack, on either side).

They gave me a prescription for an anti-biotic and for a pain killer. I took the anti-biotic, and blew off the pain killer. Plain old Advil worked fine. I was walking slow, and a little sore for about four days. After that it was done. I would say it was a LOT less uncomfortable than getting a wisdom tooth pulled. I was back to work in two days.

I have no scar. My sex life is normal.

I paid cash, because I had no insurance. You can get it at any surgery center, just don’t go to some third-world country and get it done.

It's really no big deal; a simple outpatient procedure.

Mild discomfort for a few days and before you know it, you'll be back to normal.

You get a local anesthetic. I would imagine if you insisted they'd put you out. What the heck; you're paying for the anesthetic, right?

They make a small incision, tie off the sperm tubes, and sew you back up. No big deal.

The worst part of it, really, was that for a few days the stubble from the sutures would tend to catch in the gauze pads you use just till the incision heals. Other than that, it was a piece of cake.

Don't worry.

I had it done 18 years ago under local anesthetic and a sedative. It took about 20 minutes. I had it done on a Friday and went to work (office job) on Monday. I kept an ice bag on things for a couple days. Tylenol took care of any pain. Take it easy for a couple of weeks - no jogging or big time iron pumping in the gym. There will be a lot of time when you will want to put your feet up because it feels like someone is pulling your testicles. You will be fine. Contrary to a lot of BULLSHITE you read in some posts there is absolutely NO difference in libido, performance, semen quantity etc. after surgery compared to before. If you have it done, make sure you get checked to be certain you are "sperm free" - it should take 15-20 ejaculations to get there. There are "oops" kids running today because Dad didn't get checked after the operation. If you are SURE you don't want any more kids, do it....

Is it worth it? Yeah, I haven't had to wear a g0ddamned rubber for 18 years... bareback all the time.

Vasectomy is a safe, effective, permanent method of contraception with a "very low" failure rate. Vasectomy has an excellent safety profile, about 500,000 vasectomies are performed in the United States each year, many by family physicians, and about 26% of practicing family physicians perform vasectomies. The procedure is simple, quick, and in most cases, you are returned home, on the same day.

Vasectomy and Laparoscopic surgery is very cheap in India. There is one company that is very famous in India that arranges surgery for foreigners in India. They are called the Fly2india4health Consultants. I read a lot about them in the Newspapers and about their patient stories. I have also read that they arrange financing for international patients, as all surgery is not covered by insurance or by the stinking NHS.

They also have photos pasted of their International patients. You can checkout their website. The cost savings are incredible. As a doctor I personally believe that your surgery can be easily handled in India, as the quality of Healthcare available here is simply best in the world. The surgeons are USA/UK trained and facilities are 5 star.

My cousin got her IVF (in vitro fertilization) treatment; IUI surgery done there and she is more than very happy with the results. She is all praise for Fly2india4health Consultants. She paid just 20% of the cost what she was quoted in USA and it was like a wonderful vacation for her. Hope this helps

It hurts like hell. They make you shave your balls. Then the doctor grabs them and sticks a 6" needle in each one. The he cuts the top of your sack on both sides and snipps out a little piece of each tube. Then your balls swell up to the size of grapefruits. All this under the watchful eye of a nurse. Then they give you a sling to help hold up your balls. When the swelling goes down and you can finally have sex again, you will never even place in a long distance shooting contest. You will just oozze enough out to make a nice wet spot to sleep on.

I saw it getting done on tv, and it didn't look too bad. Plus the person said recovery was alot better than they thought. and it takes 2 weeks to heal. its worth it if you dont want anymore kids and if your wife doesnt want to take birth control. its alot easier for a man to get fixed than a women. good luck
