Take a stand and DO what you preach! Since you make more than me, send me 25% of what you earn in excess of $50K. Start the redistribution of wealth without waiting for your party to do it for you. Or aren't you willing to do so? If not--I believe that makes you a hypocrite.

toffeefan--I DO work with recipients of welfare. I see moms who show their daughters how to 'work' the system. I do agree with you however, it IS a catch-22. With serious reform we can get people to work and make it more profitable for them to work. Making $7.50/hr and paying $5.75/hr for daycare doesn't cut it, but neither does robbing Peter (me) to pay Paul. The point of the question is to see if YOU are willing to GIVE to someone less fortunate--the only answers I am getting is NOT ME--let the GOVERNMENT do it.

Tax capitol gains and real estate income by 90%, are you trying to kill the economy overnight? Class warfare is no different than racism, selecting out a specific group of people for persecution.
If someone works their tail off and gets rich in the process what gives you the right to take the lions share of their proceeds?

1st. Get a job. I'm not going to simply give you 25% of what I make above 50k. Besides, 25% of my taxes do NOT go to welfare anyway. A very small percentage fo the Federal budget goes to welfare (I think its on the order of $40BB a year. That's like 10% of what we spend on the military)
2nd, It would be nice if you had a clue on welfare. Generational welfare cannot exist now. Becuase of the welfare reform put in place by, yep Clinton and Conress, there is a limit on TANF etc.
Speaking of clueless people-- Longhair freaky person (below me) also has no clue. Capital investments are what help businesses grow which translates to jobs. If we highly tax cap. gains everybody losses. Including the middle class. 40% of the working population is invested in the market and other capital gains eligible areas. If we highly tax cap gains, that investment money will go elsewhere.

if you can work and are woking you don't need my money- thus I won't give it to you.
now if you are disabled, underage, or just having a hard time I'll be happy to spot you a few bucks.
I'm not a hypocrit. once I am finacialled settled and my income isn't fluctating and I have no more debt (or at least not a lot of it). I will try to donate 10-25% of what I make to charity. I think I should alwasy be able to give 5% a year

My husband made just over $50,000 (and I spent just over $10,000 on college) last year but I won't be sending any to you. I don't mind taxes being taken out for the poor but for ALL the poor, not just 1 person. YOU would be 1 person. You really didn't make a point at all.
Crazyhorse- If someone works their butt of and is barely able to get by, what gives the president the right to take their money for a war that they don't believe in and won't benefit anyone in the U.S at all? ( Besides Bush and Co. and his bilionaire friends). With the moeny we have spent on Iraq we could have saved the lives of thousands of Americans who die because they don't have the money to go to the dorctor, we would be able to have quality schools for EVERY child, put food on the table for children who have none, etc etc....

nope, stand in line and play by the rules like every other welfare recipient. And clear your schedule for job training and resume writing. Don't forget to keep track of the applications you send out, and we will be back in touch with you in a couple months to reduce your payment and ask some more questions. And you can't cover your face from the humility of it all. Take it like the rest of em

I do not support 'generational welfare'. I am however a liberal. I do most strongly support social programs for those in need. that includes a national health plan. I also support changes in the current welfare programs. Currently a person receiving assistance and living in public housing is caught in catch 22. We recently worked with a young lady trying to escape 'generational welfare'. She went to work in a fairly low paying job. She was then notified that her benifits would decrease and her payments would increase. In effect it was affordable for her to not work but not affordable for her to work. As a liberal I am very involved in seeking changes in 'welfare' laws which would provide recipients with grace periodds so that they can begin saving towards getting our of public housing and off public assistance.
Your rather juvenile effort at attacking liberals and people receiving public assistance makes it quite clear that you have very little factual knowledge of this very serious problem. As a liberal who makes well over your $50K amount and is very supportive (financially and with my time) of those trying to get out of the assistance trap I must decline your request for funds. As I said theis is a serious matter and I only deal with people who are serious about it.
You must have missed part of my answer. At no point did I say not me or let the government do it. I do support programs to end poverty and assist those struggling with this horrendous problem. As I said I do so with quite a bit of financial support and quite a bit of work. I never said, nor do I believe that this is a government problem. It is a societal problem. That means all of us including the government need to be involved. The Clinton Foundation and One agree and have done some wonderful work in getting people to take responsibility for the problem of poverty. After all, poverty is the root disease.

I far exceed 50k. My taxes are already being redistributed in Iraq at the tune of $500 billion and climbing. So why don't you practice what you preach and send 25% of your pay to the reconstruction of Iraq?

Liberals actually support freedom and liberty for the lawless and welfare recipients at the expense of those who work hard.

If you don't understand the difference between a regulated program that distributes financial aid to the needy and a case of one person giving a boatload of money to another person who doesn't need it, then you have a lot bigger problems than you even realize.

Likewise I advise you to send 3 times that amount to corporations.
Corporate welfare costs taxpayers nearly three times as much as it does to fund social welfare.
Something to think about the next time you unconsciously place a checkmark next to the R during the next election.
