When people say that I reply, "I went from zero to two within a 1/2 hour so I can't compare myself to your situation." They usually stop and think, however some people start backpedaling. If I'm especially chatty that day I'll add, "Having children is challenging at any age. At least you had a point of reference before having another child. I wasn't blessed with that luxury so it's brand new for all of us. We'll learn together." Be sure to smile and use your "best friend" voice when you deliver these responses. They get the message.
The grossest remarks were, "Your (pick a twin) is cuter than the other." In those cases I'd say, "In our home we don't compare our children." If the backpedaling starts in a cruel way I add, "They are individuals, not a single unit. I will not let you (pick a solution) demean them because of your beliefs/destroy their innocence and self esteem with your words." Then walk away because your children are awesome, and I felt it was my responsibility to raise them so therefore, this was not open for discussion! If they like it fine, if not, do you really want them in your children's lives?
People are so insensitive and most of the time they don't even realize it.

I completely agree! We have 2 year old twins, a soon to be 4 yr old and a soon to be 6 yr old. Nothing can compare to having twins or other multiples for that matter. You can't say you understand until you have them. Sure siblings close in age may be easier when their older, but it is still nothing like having 2 babies or more at the same time.
I get tired of people telling me they look just like Mary Kate and Ashley Olsen. I hope they don't look like that when they are older.
Hang in there!

i am a twin, my great-grandparents, god bless them, adopted & raised me & my sis right out of the hospital...... they were both over 60........ we turned out pretty good i think, raised up on good old fashioned morals & values & such..... anyhoo, my gran used to always tell us about the stupid questions people would ask..... my fave was, they'd have us dressed head to toe in pink frills & lace, & people would ask "are they girls or boys?" haha! that's still funny.......... & when our younger sis was born barely a year after us, they'd take her along to & everybody would ask if we were triplets (yeah, right, two 1-year-olds & an infant, sure) she got tired of going through the whole story of our births, & finally started saying yes...... they were strangers, they'd never know the difference, & it saved her half an hour.......... yeah, nothing is like having twins except having twins......... a 2 year old & an infant are very different, they don't both need bottles every few hours, the toddler will be using the bathroom soon, etc......... i'm glad i only had one, i used to think i wanted twins, but then i had my little girl, & i don't know what i would have done if god had blessed me with two at once........ eee, don't want to think about that..... :) no, i'm sure having twins is great, doubly challenging, but great........ oh that's another one, my gran said she heard so many lame "double-mint" jokes, she thought she was gonna freak if she heard one more! but me & my sis are so glad they raised us, we would not have been well off at all with our biological parents, & now i'm trying to raise my daughter the same way i was raised, i want people to tell me what a good girl i have when she gets older (like they told my gran about us, not to brag, but we were well behaved & polite :) congrats on twins, & try to blow it out the other ear, & secretly hope those people who can get pregnant have twins the next time, so they will then know exactly what it's like to have twins, & they won't have to bother you with those annoying questions anymore, cause they'll be hearing plenty of it! :)

Well, once they get older it is.. Obviously it's not like getting up with double babies at night or anything like that. But when the kids get older they start to wear the same size clothes and are about the same height they could pass as twins. I wouldn't get offended by this. I think you and your husband are taking it a different way.

I have twins. Boy do people sometimes say some silly stuff.
My favorite is: "I always wanted to have twins or I hope I have twins"
Just because you have your babies at the sametime, doesn't mean it's easier.
But my all time favorite question is: "Are they twins?" DUH?
