but that anyone objecting to pornography only has to look the other way?

When was the last time a pornographic image was out where everyone could see on public land? I don't see anyone trying to force us to look at pornography.

Nativity scenes are fine on your front lawn. But public lands are for the public, and not everyone in the public is Christian.

Public view? No. If someone wants to put a nativity scene on their lawn, it doesn't hurt me.

However, this is a different question of whether public FUNDS should be used for nativity scenes. Or if a government should display a nativity scene. These are different questions.

As for the comparison to pornography, the question is whether or not a public display of pornography hurts people. If you believe that it does, then public displays of pornography should not be allowed.

No obvious slant to your question is there? LOL
I think porn ought to be kept where kids and people who don't want to see it don't have to.
I think nativity scenes are fine as long as other religious holidays aren't ignored or purposely left out.
I'm not Christian, but at Christmas, I don't mind seeing nativities anymore than I mind seeing menorahs or Kwaanza decorations, or Yule decorations.
I actually quite enjoy the different decorations for a wide variety of celebrations. Seeing those, usually makes my kids ask questions and that means they get to learn about diversity and that different people do different things, live different ways, and that is okay. Different doesn't mean bad, it just means different.

And for the person who said Christmas is about Christ, that may be what you are celebrating at the time, but if you actually read the bible, he was NOT born in the winter. They don't have shepherds in the field with the sheep in the winter in the middle east. That only happens in the spring and fall. Christmas is when it is because of a Pagan holiday that the Catholic church couldn't get people to stop celebrating. (there are different opinions as to which one) Since they couldn't get people to stop celebrating, they Christianized it. So there are many ways and reasons to celebrate a holiday that time of year. It's not all about Christ for everyone.

I agree with the above statement about the porn not being displayed on public land. However, I think people need to get over the whole getting offended thing and be content with who they are. Why should I care if there were a jewis star on a govt. building, the ten commandments, or the sign of Islam. As long as it's not influencing the way they write the laws, which do influence me, then I'm fine.

Since they do no belong there in the first place, how can they be banned? America's Founding Fathers banned Christianity from the US Constitution and excluded it from having any influence on America's government or public life.

Further, in 1797 the US Congress unanimously passed and signed into law:

“As the government of the United States of America is not in any sense founded on the Christian Religion”

I think you're trying to get people mad here. Nativity scenes are allowed because they are a part of peoples' religion. If you don't like them, don't look at them. Much as a Jewish Star has the right to represent that religion in public.

nativity scenes should not be put on public land supported by tax dollars. on private property, they should be displayed as the property owner wishes, just like all other outdoor christmas decorations. while religious in nature, the nativity is a symbol of christmas just as santa clause is a symbol of christmas. if a nativity scene on private property bothers people, they can just look the other way.

I don't really care about nativities. I'm an atheist but i believe strongly in freedom of religion and if people want nativities and christmassy things then they should be able to do that.

I think you are the first person to have brought this up, but then again so called christians are the biggest child abusers in the world, and this so called nativity really shows what they these people do as no such person as jesus actually existed it is just an excuse to show a naked child.
