I think it's rather silly actually - assuming it's being done for sport or fun and not necessity.
I view it as little boys in adult bodies playing army or hide and seek.
It would sicken me to do it, so I don't.
It's not a huge hot button for me though.

Hunting is part of the natural cycle. Where as I don't enjoy hunting, it is a vital part of maintaining healthy animal populations espcially in most of the USA. We have reduced the amount of foraging grounds and severely if not totally reduced the number of predators. This often means that a given population of animals is too high for what the area can support, so wild life authorities allow more hunting so that the population doesn't end up starving over the winter or overgrazing it. A less palatable way of looking at it is that it is much more humane to shoot an animal rather than have a predator chase it down, slashing it and wounding it until it is to weak to continue, and then ripping it until it dies.
You should also consider that most of the hunters use the meat as a way to feed their families to ofset high food costs...

Hunting is not the stereotypical good ol' boys getting up and shooting deer or turkeys. Nor is hunting simply people enjoying killing for their own satisfaction. Hunting is a hobby, and one we've been doing for thousands of years. It's not guys going out in the woods with six packs, but requires demanding patience, the ability to stay as close to invisible as possible, and importantly, proper safety concerning firearms.
Nearly all hunters would ostracize one who hunted for the sake of killing. It's not about that. The proper hunter has uses for the skin, meat, and almost everything from the deer or other animal he just killed. One who just shoots a deer and then leaves it there to rot is not a hunter, but a plain scumbag.
Many American Indians have the tradition of hunting ingrained in them. Are they sick individuals? Hunting to save as much as possible from the animal is what the hobby is about.

The only valid reason(other than mercy killing) for killing animals is for food. If you believe in the Bible, the authority is given at: Genesis 9:3-5. Just to kill an animal for sport is indeed wrong, otherwise as the scripture states, God will ask for the animal's blood back from the person killing it.

Excluding trophy hunting, the practice of hunting, where the animal is taken for meat, is not any more immoral than butchering livestock. I personally don't find the practice of eating meat to be morally repugnant since humans, like any other animal, require nourishment. In this context, I do not find hunting to be immoral. Killing something for sport or for the sake of human vanity is, however, a completely different story.

Its natural if you are hunting for food and not for sport. All other carnivores do it.
Does it make you sick when a tiger kills a zebra to satisfy his hunger?
