Much of the brain functions like a personal computer. The senses retrieve information from the real world and store the information in the brain's memory cache for later retrieval.

There is also internal processing ongoing all of the time. Memories are stored in the brain and are replayed continually and can be accessed at any time by the brain's central processing unit (CPU).

Additionally, thoughts pertaining to the anticipation of future events are categorized and stored for later reference by the CPU.

But, alas, the human brain is much more complex than any current computer. The concepts of abstract thought and the contemplation of consciousness are sole provinces of the human brain.

Many people confuse the incessant thoughts that are presented to the consciousness as the determinate as to who they are.

Those thought do not define us. When we realize that we can become aware of those thoughts, we then understand that another level of consciousness exists.

One way to glimpse this level is to consciously decide to become aware of the stillness between our thoughts.

That space, or stillness, is where we can find contentment, joy and detachment.
