I think he has a talent. Mabye he spent some time in England with his ex Kate Moss.

he would have had a dialect coach to get the exact tone right, but you don't need help to do an accent well, some people are just naturally talented at it. Look at other actors, Colin Farrell is unbelievable with accents, where as actors like Leonardo DiCaprio, fantastic though they may be, he isn't as natural at being able to completely change his voice, although his South African one in blood diamond was better than most others he's attempted. All actors will have help, but that doesn't take away any of their brilliance
BTW Stacey, I rarely hear an American do an ENGLISH (not British) accent without stereotyping us, whoever did Bridget Jones, I've never heard such a bad accent for a Londoner. Why do you all think we're all so posh? I've lived here my entire life and not once met a person who talks like that. Don't judge us by how Hugh Grant and whoever else cos his accents as put on as any other

It's called being an actor! That's what he's paid to do, that's why everyone loves him. He is brilliant. A great character actor with good looks, he has the X factor. The first film I saw him in was Sleepy Hollow and he plays an English character, and he puts well spoken Englishmen to shame. I love Johnny Depp xxxx

I think the transition between most American accents and English accents is relatively easy if you know what to do.
I'm English and I speak most of my words from the front of my mouth whereas if were to speak in an American accent I would stretch my mouth out more and speak from further back in my mouth.
But pressumably he will have had a voice coach to go over the finer details.

Hotter than a two dollar pistol! He's done a lot of English roles and has a great deal of experience at it by now. Anyone who's seen & heard Keith Richards can see where JD comes by the elegantly wasted mannerisms & voice. Loved him in the Libertine, but the Earl was a complete scoundrel and the movie is hard to watch w/o cringing.

He is a fantastic character actor and that alone means that his methods are based on observations. The main inspiration for Jack Sparrow is from Keith Richards, who is one of Johnny's idols. With the kind of experience Johnny has, I doubt he had to deal with a voice coach to create Jack's unique accent. He's my hero. :D lol!

He probably had a coach..but maybe not!!! Some people can just pick accents up really easily. Doesn't he have a home in London?? That would be one way to pick it up.

Are you having a laugh? The only way he can talk in an English accent is to sound like he's pi*sed! He's a great actor but come on, that accent is as bad as Dick Van Dyke's in Mary Poppins!
