I know this woman that worked for minimum wage all of her life. She is a decent hardworking woman that bought a car, raised a son, and bought a house on minimum wage. All she ever had was minimum wage jobs.

I also do not think that there are many people that do this either. I think it is just a big Democrat issue to make people believe that they care about the people. At least where I come from if you were trying to pay someone minimum wage, you would find very few people. Think about it there are plenty of unskilled jobs out there that pay a lot more than minimum wage. Here is an example. A general Laborer can earn an average of 25,000 per year in my area.

That is about $12.50 and hour. Almost twice the ammount of the incease that they want to the minimum wage. If you work at Mcdonalds and earn minimum wage, look at Taco Bell. There are always other places to work, people are just LAZY and dont want to find a new Job. They want the government to do every thing for them.
When I was in highschool about 12 years ago, I made more money then the current minimum wage. I worked in a Gas Station for over $5.00 an hour. My guess is most are in High School.

Not true! I recently quit a minimum wage job that I worked for for three years. It took me two years to finaly get a raise, and I consider myself a hard worker. That place is just cheap and is not willing to pay you more unless they have to. I do know people still work there and other places that make minimum wage for longer than 2 or 3 months, and they are good employees. Yes these people deserve raises, They deserve to live well and not have to work two full time jobs just to get by every month.

I worked minimum wage for over 2 years.
And you're right, I wasn't a hard worker at all. (EXTREME SARCASM HERE)
Facts are - I lived in a small town - there was nowhere else to work. Did I deserve a raise? Yes. Did I get a raise? About 2.5 years into it.
I was satisfied with what I was getting... I mean I wasn't purchasing luxury cars or yachts, but hey, I still had food to eat and a warm bed to sleep in.
Chalk up 1 for the 'worked for minimum wage for more than a month of two' column.

I've only know teenagers who worked for minimun wage. It benefits them and they don't need that much money. I'm personally against the minimun wage raise. It doesn't benefit anybody and will hurt businesses. A restaurant will have to lay off employees to give more money to somebody who didn't worked that hard in high school to get a better job. This will cause inflation and many people will be fired from their jobs due to the inability of employers to pay their salary. The minimun wage is a populist measure and something that I as a fiscal conservative don't like. Most people working on minimun wage get a raise after a couple of months. This bill is moot.

I knew a guy that worked for minimum wage for over a year. He was a hard worker, even pulled extra shifts, came in early and stayed late when needed and did his job with pride. He should have gotten a raise long before he did. And when he did finally get a raise, it was a really rotten one. Needless to say, he eventually got a clue and resigned from the position. I truly don't why he stayed with that job for so long, we all tried to tell him to quit for the longest time. His former boss just didn't appreciate him at all! The person that he used to work for has since gone out of business because he couldn't keep employees.

In high school I worked for minimum wage. Since I worked for the municpality, I was not entitled to a raise until after a year, and then it was a set rate. This is in fact, often the case as municipal and state budgets are set by the local/state government. With respect to private employers, I have seen little evidence that an employee hired at minimum wage receives a raise after two months. I welcome a source.

I personally have worked for minimum wage on more than one job without getting a raise. They were menial jobs that required nothing of me other than my presence. I did not expect nor wanted a raise. I actually felt like I should have payed them. If I had needed more money; I would have taken another job doing something that required more of me. You can go farther faster if you remember this Always give an honest days work for an honest days pay.
