What about people born blind? Do they dream?

Everyone dreams (blind people included) and in general, people's dream experience is similar to their waking experience. For those that were blind from birth, they do not have a lot of visual stimuli to draw on for their dreams, so they have dreams that are primarily auditory, tactile or even involve taste and smell. People who lose their sight very early (before age five) apparently experience no visual imagery in their dreams. Visual imagery is a variable for those who lose their sight between ages five and seven. People who lose their sight after age seven almost always have some level of visual imagery present in their dreams. They've done extensive studies and have also found that REM sleep is disturbed in blind people, so they may actually dream less.

Do you sleep with your eyes open?

Everybody has dreams. If you where blind wouldn't you dream of the possibility of seeing again.
Dreams are a form of imagination and I would think that being unable to see you would try to imaging what something looked like after having it described.

If the people were born blind, they have no REM and no visual imagery; the dreams consist of impressions from the other senses -- touch, hearing, smell, and taste. If the people were sighted and then became blind, they have REM (if the eye muscles have not yet atrophied), and their dreams contain visual imagery -- but these visual dreams might cease to occur eventually

My brother is blind and he dreams but not in the same way you and I do. His dreams have events in them that he describes with the feelings he has in the dream, any conversation that takes place and he is aware of where he is in the dream because of what he is touching, smelling and hearing. It's quite interesting to hear him describe these dreams.

Yes they do...

While you are sleeping your eyes are closed so literally you are blind. And as a matter of fact dreams are just imagination. And imagination comes from mind. And blinds do have (relatively) healthier mind. So blinds also dreams like we all do...

Good question. I see <---oops. Anyways, I don't know the answer and was hoping to find out by reading yours, but I guess no actual blind people can see your question to give you personal experience, and all the other answers seem contradictory of each other.

No, blind people don't dream. And those who have lost their sight stop dreaming. Excellent, insightful question.
