When we run the hot water tap it takes ages for the water to become hot. The tap makes a noise like there's air in the pipes somewhere, not sure. Have had the boiler checked and been told it's fine. As we are on a water meter do not want to keep wasting water just running it to get hot.

Depends on what sort of water heater you have. We used to have a combi boiler and I found that if I run the hot water too quickly it didn't have long enough to heat up so it ran cold. I know this sounds backwards but try only turning the tap on just a little way and see if the water gets hotter quicker.

The only other thing I can guess is that somewhere you've got some air trapped in the pipes - try running the tap which is highest in the house as well as turning on the lowest - it might just encourage the water to work its way round and out.

It depends how far your tap is from the boiler. The firther it is from the boiler, the longer the hot water has to travel to the tap. Try using your hot tap only half open and this might help the water to heat up quicker. When the hot tap ids fully open , it doesnt give the water passing through the boiler much chance to heat up.

well listen, if the cost of water is really an issue there and you own the home, just put a recirculator on the water heater, it keeps the water warm to the faucet and you get instant water that's warm.
On the other-hand, you can put a 1 gallon boiling hot heater below the sinks, plumb it in and you can regulate the hot with the cold faucet to get the temp you need NOW!.
It just depends how much you are willing to spend and if you own the home or not...but there are items out there that will make your life easier.

Put a recirculation pump in the hot water loop should work.
And bleed the air out of the line at the highest point possible .

You sound like my #2 son. He wouldn't listen when building his house.......There is a device that can be used on old houses. What I mean is that a house that is already constructed..It is installed in/on your hot water lines and it keeps hot/warm water closer to the faucet. Don't know the cost but it is not to cheap . Call a plumber and ask.

Dear Verity

I assume this is your first enema but it is necessary for you to show a little patience.

When inserting the hosepipe up the rusty star make quite sure it's at least 12" up the said orafice and then turn on the flood gates. I trust at this stage you will be lying face down reading a dam good book but do reach over to the tap and move it slowly to the right. NOT to fast as I can still remember the screams of my previous girlfriend when I turned the tap too far to the left.
