Yes, if you do not dechlorinate it first. Petstores carry Water Conditioners, which eliminate chlorines, chloramines and heavy metals found in tap water (which will kill fish). Add that to your tap water and it will be safe for your fish.
You can also leave your water sitting overnight for the chlorine to evaporate, but this will not eliminate the chloramines, fyi.

yes regular tap water Will hurt goldfish, you need to add a water conditioner, it makes tap water safe for all fish. See our regular tap water contains Chlorine, heavy metal such as copper and iron, and the water conditioner eliminates all of those harmful things that could kill your fish. It is really cheap to buy only about $3. Now all those other chemicals they say you have to buy is just a way to get money, but you have to treat any water with conditioner before adding to your tank. I have been in the fish hobby for about 5 years now and I have done lots of research on what to do and what not to do! Plus I have learned to just try stuff and see if it works for me. The water conditioner I use is called AquaSafe by the makers of TetraAqua. Hope that helped you out a bit.

There is chlorine in city water supplies.
Chlorine damages fish's gills, causing them to slowly suffocate to death. You can remove the chlorine instantly and easily with water conditioners sold at petstores. Or you can do it for free by boiling the water for a few minutes, or by letting the water sit for a day or two (you can speed it up to just a couple of hours by adding an airstone since aeration makes the chlorine dissipate faster.)
Before you try the free routes though, do be aware that some city water supplies contain chloramine as well, which doesn't evaporate quickly like chlorine does and is just as toxic to your fish. Contact your city government to ask if your water supply has chloramine.

Every fish needs de-chlorinized water, or else the fish will die within a day.

Many here have said it best so I won't say anything more, except that please make sure you have the right size aquarium for your goldies. 10 gallons of water per fish up to 3 inches, 20 gallons of water per fish up to 6 inches and 40 gallons of water per fish over 9 inches. You also need proper filtration and aeration. Also check your ammonia, nitrites, nitrates and ph levels. Thanks!

The water needs to be declorinated.
Also it should be left to reach room temperature before you do a water change on your tank.

Not if you add water conditioner. If you don't add conditioner, it will hurt them.
