A cube has length, width and height, 3 dimensions, regardless of what you call them. a cubic yard then is a cube where the length = width = height = 1 yard or 3 feet.
Volume of a cube is length * width * height, therefore a cubic yard is 3 * 3 * 3 = 27 cubic feet. Hence 10 cubic yards is 270 cubic feet.

There are 27 cubic feet in 1 cubic yard (there are 3 linear feet in a linear yard and 27 is 3 cubed). So there's 270 cubic feet in 10 cubic yards.

A cubic yard is 3'x3' or 9 cubic feet, therefore 10 cubic yards would be 90 cubic feet.
Keep in mind that 10 cubic yards isn't equal to 10 yards cubed. 10 cubic yards represents a volume 1yard x 1 yard x 10 yards, where are 10 yards cubed would be 10 yards x 10 yards x 10 yards, or 100 times more.
Hope this helps! :)

since you are dealing with a number being cubed you would take the number 10 and cubed so 10^3=10x10x10=1000 therefore 10 cubic yards-1000 cubic feet

1 yard = 3 feet
(1 yard)^3 = (3 feet)^3
1 yard^3 = 27 feet^3 and therefore
10 yard^3 = 270 feet^3
