I think you are referring to "bullet-proofing your computer."

A general discussion follows:

Bullet-proof your PC
21st July 2003 [Computer Buyer]

Don't just sit there waiting for your PC to go wrong. Take action today, and you can improve your PC's performance and guard against hazards such as virus attacks and data loss. Here's how.

The moment you start taking anything for granted, it's bound to go disastrously wrong. Fail to look after your car, and it'll seize up by the roadside. Forget your wedding anniversary, and you'll be looking for a hotel room for the night. All the important things in life require tender, loving care.

Your PC's no different - if you want it to last, you need to look after it. Forget to do so, and you may wind up with a machine that crashes frequently - or, worse, stops working altogether. Over the next few pages we'll put together an action plan of simple steps you can take to keep your PC happy.

We'll look in detail at your computer's needs, and answer questions about such things as drivers, why you might need to replace them and where to find new ones. We'll also look at how often you should carry out general maintenance tasks such as disk defragmentation. Follow our advice, and your PC will keep purring contentedly.

Of all the topics we're going to look at, backing up is the most important. Here, we'll show you how to back up your files, your settings - and even Windows itself. It's impossible to overstate the need to back up - you should save your work files at least every few days. If you don't already do this, start now, especially before getting stuck into some of the more complex maintenance tasks we'll be examining. Some of these jobs require you to delve into the complexities of Windows, or take the side off your PC. Before attempting any of these, make a copy of all your work.

Hope this helps. I learned something from it.

I think that is the phrase that I heard Tony Soprano's daughter use when talking to her brother in an ad for the episode of the Soprano's that is on tonight on A & E. I'm guessing it refers to permanently wiping out content on your hard drive so it can't be retrieved again.

I am not sure but have seen on tv people wiping their hard drive with super powerful magnets.

Its kinda like "bust a cap in your ***" only this is reffering to a computer.

Use this phrase when your computer is acting up.
