Mermaids are (mythical) creatures that have the torso and face of a human woman, but the tail of a fish. Mermen are the same exept, obviously, they have the torso of a man.

People now believe that sailors invented these creatures after seeing the forms of manatees swimming past their ships...probably after they had a little too much rum =P

In reality they were manatees or sea cows. Kinda funny I wonder how long you would have to be at sea to think a manatee is an attractive woman.

Oh yeah, half fish and half woman. The male version is called Mermen.
