Run in a marathon. When you finish you'll want to die so bad you'll never touch the things ever again. Worked for me.

Nicotrol Inhaler-
A quit-smoking aid, the Nicotrol Inhaler provides a substitute source of nicotine when you first give up cigarettes. A sudden decline in nicotine levels can cause such withdrawal symptoms as nervousness, restlessness, irritability, anxiety, depression, dizziness, drowsiness, concentration problems, sleep disturbances, increased appetite, weight gain, headache, constipation, fatigue, muscle aches, and a craving for tobacco. Nicotrol Inhaler prevents these symptoms and, through a familiar hand-to-mouth ritual, acts as a replacement for cigarettes. (Most of the nicotine in the product is, however, deposited in the mouth instead of the lungs.)

To get the most from this system, you must be genuinely committed to quitting, and should give up smoking completely before you begin using the inhaler. It should be employed as part of an overall stop-smoking program that includes behavior modification, counseling, and support. The goal is to become a total non-smoker. If you find that you are still smoking after 4 weeks with the inhaler, you should probably stop treatment and try again when you are really ready to quit.

Each Nicotrol Inhaler package includes a mouthpiece and 42 cartridges of nicotine. Treatment takes place in two stages. During the first stage (up to 12 weeks) you should use as many Nicotrol cartridges as needed (at least 6, but no more than 16 daily) to quell the craving for cigarettes. During the second stage (6 to 12 weeks) you should gradually reduce your daily consumption until you are nicotine-free.

I smoked for 8 years, almost 2 packs a day.
I got tired of having strep throat and coughing up brown mucus.

But it was me vs the cigs. It was self-determination.
I put a fresh pack of smokes in front of me, the lighter, and ashtray. It was hard, but as the hours passed, then days and weeks, I knew I had won the battle. I haven't smoked since and I quit in October of '89.

Plus, if you drink citrus juice in place of smoking within a couple of weeks the citrus will knock that need for nicotine right out of your system.

I know you dont want to hear it, BUT cold turkey was the only thing that worked for me..I tried the patches and slowly quiting, neither worked. Find something else to do when you have a craving...chew gum, work out, knit (lol) anything. Good Luck!

I smoked for 30 years. Tried everything to quit. Finally went to a Doctor for acupuncture. It worked. I've been off for 19 years.

Unfortunately, I had a quadruple bypass 3 years ago. The surgeon said the problem began during my smoking years.
Quit smoking - you won't be sorry.
If you don't quit smoking you will be sorry.
Good Luck!!

i started smoking when i was 16... around a pack a day...
(i'm 26 now) but, i wanted to start running and getting in shape and i found it to be really hard with the smoking... so i just finally quit buying cigs... yeah, i was a real crab for a while... but, i can finish my workouts no prob now and i feel so much better... it was well worth it...

i kept carrot sticks around too... and chewed on those...

i did buy a couple of packs here and there, but after i would smoke a few... i felt like crap again so i ended up throwing them out... and wasting money... so, i finally stopped buying them altogether...

I quit several years ago. some people get addicted worse than others...I didn't find it so hard to do.....rocked it cold turkey..good luck.

one thing I know is that you have to find your own way in life...you want gimmicks...you want somebody else's solution...and that doesn't work. when you want it you will have it...(now I'll get off my soap box)
