I can't explain LOST to you. You'd have to watch it from the very beginning or you'll be VERY confused. Basically, a group of people are flying from Sydney to L.A. Along the way their plane crashes thousands of miles off course. The island they're on is no ordinary island. There are underground hatches, polar bears, smoke monsters, and other people already living there. One of the main points in the show is that everything happens for a reason. Everyone on the plane has met each other before without realizing it ; everyone on the island is connected.
The show is a lot better than I've made it sound. You just have to watch it. If you do watch it I would strongly advise watching the first two seasons on DVD first.

Gilligan's Island it ain't. Basics of the show: plane from Australia to California goes down; problem is plane is 1000 miles off course, so no one knows where they are. 46 people survive, they hear strange sounds from the island jungle - some kind of monster. Island was site of some type of experiment, which may still be going on. People get killed; people get kidnapped; people fall in love; people fall in hate. There's a website lost-tv.com that literally has transcripts of every episode. Advise going in and reading a few to get the gist of what's going on. Like I said - this ain't Gilligan's Island, and Gilligan wouldn't last a minute.

Basically it's about the relationships among some people who survived a plane crash and are stranded on a tropical island. You can read a lot more about it at http://lost-spoilers-blog.blogspot.com/ . There also are so real bad people called the others who are killing the survivors one at a time.
