I don't recommend bleach, cause although it works, it's also toxic and caustic.

I use a combination of hydrogen peroxide and baking soda. OxyClean works great too.

Hydrogen peroxide is the substitute chemical used as a bleach alternative in many laundry detergents. I use this with a lot of baking soda and let my whites soak. This gets my whites really white without the caustic effects that chlorine bleach can produce.

Its not the right time of year but in the summer hang out to dry in sunlight - that'll keep clothes crisp and white, as well as all the washing/soaking tips mentioned.

Nothing better than oxyclean, hot water let wash for a minute then let soak for hrs. I have green soaks all summer long cuz I have lawn service. Trust me it works. Bleach only eats your clothes up.

add a little bit of Mrs. Smith's Blueing to the final rinse, and everything comes out bright white. just be careful to add it to a full tub of water, as it can stain clothes if poured directly on fabric.
