pay the lower level employees who do more grunt work - like making invitations and putting things together - hourly. ($15-$25 an hour depending on experience and task) Offer a bonus to employees who bring you new clients. Don't play with commission unless you hire people full time and they are more like partners.

Since I'm not in this type of business I wouldn't know personally, but do your homework. Check out what other businesses pay for a wedding planner. When you call tell them that you're a beginner planner and would like to know how a planner gets paid. Another thing is when you hire for the position is to check the resume and see what experience is there on paper and to ask the person what they're salary recommendations are. Good luck!

When I was an Event Planner I had a salary, but I worked for an actual Banquet Facility. I am not sure about someone who does not work a full 40+ hour work week.........Good Luck in your adventure though. It is a lot of fun but is a huge stress sometimes.
