RE:
Red mildew growing in my shower. Is this plausable?
So, my shower seems to grow red. I don't know how or where the red comes from, but I suspect it is a mildew. The only alternative is that some red hair dye stained it ages ago and is infintesimaly slowly seeping out of the tiles and plastic. I am hoping this is the case, because red mildew...

Spray it with some bathroom cleaner specifically designed to stop mildew, I believe Lysol has one. If the mildew's not too bad, it might get rid of it, and sometimes it discourages it from growing back. You can take down the liner and wash it in warm water, detergent, and a little bleach in the washing machine on gentle. Just don't put it in the dryer. Sometimes that gets rid of it. If all else fails, I just buy a new liner since they're only $2-3 dollars at Walmart, K-Mart, Target, etc.

The best way to stop mildew from growing on a shower curtain liner is to stop using the shower for bathing. Use a bleach containing product or a solution of diluted bleach to clean the shower curtain. You may want to improve ventilation in the bathroom by running a fan or leaving an open window after bathing. Eventually, you will need to replace the shower curtain liner. They are inexpensive.

Molds come in different colors depending on the environment. I've seen black, green, dark brown, dark red, and the list goes on and on. These are normal occurrence in swimming pool washroom walls and in your case households shower walls. We use a mild solution of water and bleach and then pressure washed it. In your case you can soak it in bleach then brush it off while washing it. If it seep into the tiles and plastics, the only solution is to replace the whole thing.
Then again it might be what you think. Just a dye stain from your hair coloring.

It totally exists. I've seen so much of it in college when I would go over to friends' houses. Try cleaning your bathroom on a daily basis (at least once a week) and leave your bath door/window open to let the air in and out. Use a lot of bleach bases products and it should help (Ajax or Comet should do the trick).

It's not mildew, but residue from the chemicals in the water. It's harmless. Just means you need to scrub a bit more.

yes, i see it alot. well, i dont know that its mildew or soap scum, but either way i see it alot. use tilex mildew remover or easy off bam. let it sit for 5 or 10 min and take a brush it will come right off. then get some tilex daily shower spray and it will keep it from building up.

The red is indeed chemical residue, Flouride in the water. Just have to keep after it. Dow Scrubbing Bubbles, Soft scrub with bleach, I like using "Dobie" scrubbers - sponges wraped in plastic mesh, really cut through the crud without scratching. You want to come do my bathroom when your done? Champagne on the veranda afterwards!!
