yes and you can go to any family planning and they will give you a medical exam and fill your prescription for cheap or free. you are being responsible and a normal teenager and i don't see anything wrong with your decision. i've been on the pill since i was 14(my mom's idea and i was all for it!!) and 15 years later, no pregnancies, but also use a condom for std's, but now that married, it's just a second precaution. maybe once you're on the pill, you may want to have a discussion with your parents so you don't have to feel like you are hiding anything, but seeing you do such a grown up thing like getting yourself to a doctor and using birth control, they may take it easier than you think!! good luck and i hope there are more teenagers out there like you!!!

Sweetie, it's worth more than telling your parents that you are 16 and pregnant and no longer with the father. Hell yeah, birth control is worth it. I would much rather find out my daughter is on birth control than pregnant.

sure! Like they said, if you're sexually active. Also, I read in the newspaper, that most BCs nowadays aren't as effective as before. They said, they lowered the doses so that the side effects won't be happening. That's what they said. Anyway, it's your choice. I'd actually tell my parents, because sometimes BCs can have dangerous side effect and it can effect your life! You don't want to go waking up in the middle of the night feeling dizzy or faint from a blood clot cuz of a BC pill. I'm not on anything cuz I chose to stay abstinent till marriage (and I'm also afraid of STDs and haven't found the ONE) but if you want to go on BC, I think you should tell your parents. I think also, if you're 16 and a minor, they have to have your parents signiture. I 'm not sure on that though. Good luck!

Well Birth control don't work on everyone there are lots of diff rent kinds, (had to switch 3 time to get the right one)anyways its not just the birth control issue it aids, genital warts,Claudia,ext.........Please if you are having sex use more than birth control let that be an extra protection!!!!!PLEASE!!! Alot of girls go behind there parents backs, fearful of what mom dad might say,Talk to your mom and casually bring it up write her a letter if your scared. But with having sex there is responsibility . There is paps you have to get a the doctor,.....you'd rather tell yous mom than have yo tell her (god forbid)that you have HIV or aids, or mom I'm pregnant be cause your on the wrong birth control. be safe

It is more worth it than you will ever know. You should be honest and up-front with your parents if they catch you but you don't have to tell them, especially if you go to a health dept and they give it to you. It is completely confidential and even if your parents take you for a check up they cant tell them you are on birth control. I say GO FOR IT!!

If you don't want to do it behind their backs then try telling them you want to go on it to regulate your period or to make your cramps better. But if you don't think they will go that then just get them anyway. I believe planned parenthood is suppose to be cheaper for high school students, when I was 16 my ob/gyn told me to go there if my mom wouldn't agree to letting me go on them.
Don't stop using condoms either just because you are on the pill, you'll be even less likely to get pregnant and the pill doesn't prevent you from getting an STD.

I would think your parents should know, but YES it is worth it. Its worth being smart and prepared.

You should respect yourself enough to use it and condoms to protect yourself from not only pregnancy, but STD's too!

YES, YES, YES

Why bother using it behind their back... be honest with them. It will put their minds at ease knowing that you're being responsible for your future.

Use condoms too!!
