Get a cat, as well as being a good companion, if you get a farm cat, then they usually make really good ratters. We had mice problems and got a 16 week old kitten who had caugth her first mouse in a week. About 6 months later there were some industrial buildings behind us that were demolised and all the houses got rats - the cat got rid of them again within a week. Cats also make good deterents for rodents coming back into the house. Also the use of cats prevents accidents with rat poison and other petsor children

Well you can get rat poison, why it works on rats is because rats can not be sick.
I have two pet rats, and I have had three before that have died. They are really nice animals.
You can call the council and they will send someone out to deal with it, if you don't want the rat.

I don't know why everyone is being so unkind. The bathroom is the one place you want ot feel relaxed, not on rodent patrol.
Try a rat trap from your local hardware store or rat glue. Bait the trap or glue with fish. That is the one thing that overpowers their natural caution.

Well this a local method where i come from, use a pad smeared with super glue and put bread crumbs or anything u think will be attractive to rats and place it dark enclosed areas the best thing about this is that it is cheaper than fumigating your toilet hope this helps

It might be a good idea for you to contact your local council or environment agency so that they can come and kill the rat for you and dispose of the body. they can also advise you of how to prevent this happening again in the future.

Seal up any holes or openings where he can enter and exit. You may want to put a little poisin in the opening before you seal it. Lay down a few traps around your house, because more than likely, if you saw one baby--there are more.

For heavens sake it wont hurt you! put down a humane trap (cage one) and catch the rat and release him out in the countryside.
