of course other people are as well, but i live in the US so i tailor this question specifically to americans.

is it because we enjoy seeing others suffer?

I think it's for the thrill. I think it's sorta like a horror movie. You watch it to be scared or for the excitement of seeing something new. I'm not really into violence and I can get squimish at it.

To each their own......I think violence has its place in entertainment. In reality we are a violent bunch of people. I dont think adults should have to deal with ratings, other than for their children. And parents need to take a stronger stance on what their kids are being subjected to. I think thats why violence is at the point it is now. Apathetic parents.

i have no idea, but i am no exception to the rule. not serious violence of course. but stuff like jackass and the first few shows of american idol are on the top of my list!

it's engrained in the culture. Competition, winner takes all, hero culture is bound to be tainted with violent tendencies.
