How can I change a text on a cell. For example I have a column of measurements like 3 1/2 inches,2 inches,1 3/4 inches etc. How can I delete the word "inches" from the cell without going one by one.

I tried that Ctrl+H but like in 1/2 it changes it into a date. I tried formating but it doesn't work.

Hit ctrl-h (find and replace)

In the find type "inches" (use quotes)

In the replace type "" (Quotes with nothing between)

Select "Replace all"

A couple ways.. It depends on why it says inches. Did you type "Inches" or is part of the format of the number. If you typed it the easiest way would probably highlight the cells you want to remove "Inches" from then go to the "Edit" menu... Select "Replace" Type "Inches" for find and leave Replace blank. Then press "Replace all"

If "Inches" is in the format of the number then just highlight the cells, right click and select "format cells" Then go to "number" and erase "Inches"

Highlight the entire column.
Click "data" on your tool bar
Click on Text to columns.
This will open the Columns to text wizard. Click the radio box the reads "Fixed Width"
Click next. This brings up step 2 of 3
You will see your list in a box.
If there are no line showing separation, click where you would like to separate the text. A single click adds a line, a double click eliminates the line.
Once you have the line where you want to separate the two, click next.
This brings up step 3 of 3. If you want the "inches" to remain just click finished.
If you want to eliminate the "inches" portion, click on "general" just above where it says "Inches".
Once the column is highlighted, click the radio box in the upper right hand corner that read "don not import (skip)" That should do it. Feel free to email me if you need more help
