I am reading it right now and I am pretty much in the beginning of the book, on like the 200th page or so. I am finding myself getting bored since nothing interesting has happened yet. Can I expect it to get better as I keep reading?

I assure you it's a good one, it might be tedious or boring sometime but you'd find some good episodes off and on. However, I found a section on politics in which I personally thought it was unnecessary but I still kept reading as a background, that is, for general understanding for other chapters. Vikram Seth's style is unique and he is one of some few Indian authors whom I read. One more thing I like the novel is its not too long chapters. Keep going and enjoy.

NO. It has a plot like an Indian soap opera and is written in a dull, plodding style. Abandon it and read something else.
His verse novel "The Golden Gate" was so much better.

yes!!..it is long, and yes!!..it gets a little bit tedious, and boring at times..but, believe me it's worth it...vikram seth is the best Indian writer...in 200 pages, you've just been familiarized with all the characters..it's about to get sooo good...keep reading and enjoy!!
